  1. Brudda,  when Pipeline is happening,  you better be on it.

And I don't mean da waves. You better know what you doing

out dea'.  It's not like any place you surfed befo'. Da reef is shallow,  and da waves are tall. If you go,  no go alone. You

betta' have some local boyz with you dat' surf Pipes. If not,

you going get lickins'. Dat ain't no lie. Just a warning.

  2. Depending on your natural ability combined with what you've learned, it would take years of training/ surfing to be able to surf there.  Pro Surfers still respect and fear the place, as they know it's dangerous whether or not you know what you're doing.  Heck, pro surfers have died there in the past few years.

Locals aren't exactly jerks.  They're protective of their small area.  There's only so many waves in one small section called Pipe.  There's other sections like Backdoor, but it's all confined to a small area.

A pro surfer by the name of Freddy Patacchia (sp?) started surfing there in his teens, but that's considered late to start there and he's a local.  You have to earn respect there.  People will learn to know if you can even hang there.  If they see a new person, of course some guys will discourage you from surfing there.

I think the only way you can get in a little bit easier is if you show up with a pro, or one of the Wolf Pack (local surfer crew at Pipe).  But the chances of that are slim to none.  Even then, they'll still heckle you for even being there since you're adding to the number of people surfing there.

According to numerous interviews of different surfers, it could take hours before one person gets a wave at Pipeline on a busy day.  And as said before, contests really limit the days when the "public" are allowed to surf there.

  3. You'd need to fit and be able to get up on an extremely steep face. You could get the fitness within a few months, but the skills to get up on the incline could take about 2 years to learn granted you surf every day.

  4. Its not a matter of time, but of skill. If you got skills you will get respect in the line-up, be a kook and your just asking for trouble.

  5. OOO man that takes some serious skill to ride the pipeline. I am 20 and I have been surfing since I was 7 so that's like what 13 years of surfing... I have only surfed the pipeline once and quite frankly I don't want to again (hehehe). I read previous posts and the one guy who said pro's have trouble with it, and he couldn't be more correct.  It was hard for me, and I am a professional surfer. So it definitely takes some years of experience. All I know is after I surfed it I gained a new respect for the people who can ride the wave like it's nothing because it's really hard.

  6. It does not really matter how many years you have surfed for, but if you are dedicated and really work hard and concentrate on your surfing career you will be able to surf pipeline when you are ready and when you are confident (and have the guts to do it) with your self!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  7. Depending on how big the wave your on about at pipeline, could be anywhere from 2-10 Years Depending On The Conditions You Are Willing To Surf At Pipeline.

  8. Local surfers will always be Jerks especially some one from somewhere else trying to surf a bad azz break. and to surf pipeline you have to have confidence, and surf for a long time. there are some places where I have seen locals punch non locals out in the water because they are on their surf spot. "locals only" so if you want to surf some real local spots you gotta be a bad azz and know someone to introduce you to da boys, and each Island has their "boys". have respect =]

  9. It would take you several years of actual training, versus say casual surfing to get good enough that could realistically make the drop and come come out unscathed.

Now the odds of you getting waves there as a stranger are pretty low so you're gonna have to put in some additional time to build a rep and earn some respect before you can start getting set waves.  That's not say that the locals are necessarily jerks, they are just super protective of their break.  You have to remember that most of the professional surfing world descends on their little stretch of beach during the short period of the year that they get great surf.  Then there are the numerous contests held there so that eliminates those days that they are allowed to surf there also.

  10. If you're asking this question that automatically tells me you should never surf Pipe. You'll either get knocked out from da reef, or one knuckle sandwich. Nuff said.

  11. there is no age or time frame, if you got, it you go it. so be sure you got what it takes.

  12. depending on how much u surf, its around 2-10 years. if the locals bother you, surf next to them when theyre not lookin and pull their board from underheathe them.
