Well it would be the best to keep the light on for 12 hours and turn it off for another 12 hours

depends on what you have in your tank. If you have a planted tank, then 14hrs on/10 hrs off, should provide enough lighting for the plants. But if they are fish only or you are using artificial/silk plants then 10-12 hrs on should be ok.

the light should usually be left on between 8 - 10 hours a day.. much more than this stimulates algae growth and is considered to be unhealthy for the plants and the fish's biological cycle. it affects them more than some people might think especially if you're trying to induce breeding.x*x

If your fish aren't warm water fish dont keep it on for to long because it might warm the water up and kill the fish.keep it on for bout 30 mins a day.If they r warm water fish keep it on from about 8pm to 8am.

if your fish can't be in warm water then it is not a good idea to keep the light on, it will heat up the water.

Thanks for taking care of your fish. You need to give a proper day time and night for your fish in aquarium. So, keep on the lights atleast  8 to 12 hours In day time of your country. You can use PL TUBE for your aquarium.

If you have Nocturnal fish like Black Ghost Knife then feed them when the light off. In case of Nocturnal fish don't use a heavy light and use some floating plant for making some shade.

So, use proper things to make your tank and fishes better.
