I'm a college student and I live about an hour from school. I am looking for a room to rent in a house with adults, preferably a family, so I don't have to worry about crazy roommates, but I don't want to pay as much as I would living in an apartment.

  1. you could try this site:  http://www.WhatsTheRent.com

  2. There are often rooming houses or families who will rent out a room to a student near colleges and universities.  Check the local newspaper classifieds (including the newspaper's online edition), and check the bulletin boards at the school.

  3. Most people put ads in their local newspaper. If you can't find an ad that suites you, try placing your own ad and you will probably get a response. You can also find just about anything by putting it in quotes in the search engine. Type in your city and then "room for rent" and see what you get. You can get all kinds or results when using a technique like that because there could be all kinds of local sites that you simply haven't heard of that tailor to whatever it is that you are looking for.

  4. Try http://www.iHomeConnect.com

They probably have what you're looking for.

  5. Craig's list is the best place for such things in most sizeable cities.
