Question:

How might I go about looking for my adopted half brother?

All I know is his birthdate- April 5th, 1972 and my (and his) mom's name. I know the state he was born in, and I'm pretty certain I know the town, as I know the town she lived in (Oceanside, California). I'm not comfortable talking to her about it, and I'm pretty sure that's all she knows, anyways. Any advice is appreciated, thanks.

  1. Hi Sarah,

Besides the ISRR (a great place to start), the State of California also has a state registry.  It's late...I'll come back and post the link to it for you tomorrow.

Begin with what you know. Write down everything you DO know. Do you know how old your mom was when he was born? Did she perhaps stay with a relative or a home for unwed moms? Or was she a young woman at the time living on her own?  I'm pretty sure that Oceanside was a pretty small community back in 1972.  I live in California & while  growing up, my grandmother lived in Vista (near Oceanside).

I'll be happy to help.  Feel free to e-mail me.

Back at ya in the AM

  2. I am an adotption search angel and i can help if you want. my email is gavins_mom2003@hotmail.com i also have a myspace group that has many resources for adoption search and reunion on it.  http://groups.myspace.com/adoptionsearch...

  3. check out these websites

  4. Do a person search for him through his last name , birth date and where he lives.

  5. Have you tried the on line registries? Google 'adoption search' or 'adoption reunion search'. You'll find some sites where people register when they're looking for their birth families. Many will allow you to search by birth date only.

Also register with the ISSR. http://www.isrr.net/

Those are the two I would start with. Good luck.

edit--here is a list of reunion registries http://reunion-registries.adoption.com/

  6. Search the surname and go from there. Good luck. :)
