How might a surfer hurt their ankle while in the water?

I'm doing research for a sotry and want my character to have hurt their ankle in the water, preferably something that would keep them off their feet for a couple weeks, like a sprain or something. <3 thanks

There are many ways. Generally when surfing, those waters have corals or rocks in the bottom, those can easily injury every part of the surfer.

When surfing, a single movement causes a big direction change, without knowing, the surfer can make a minimal movement and change its curse dramatically and get injured.

when turning a surf board or landing air, you sometimes can twist your ankle REALLY bad (it happens on a skateboard). and ENOUGH WITH SHARK ATTACKS. they&#039;re rare and dont keep them off feet for a few weeks, but for the rest of their lives

Or...

The surfer was a little too close to the coral while sailing along on an innocent wave, toppled into the surf onto the coral, resulting in a sprain?
