How much CO2 does a computer produce with out Energy Star? How much does it cost to use a computer with out Energy Star?

  1. As much as the coal fired plant that they use to make the power.  Computers just eat power and waste 1/2 of it.  If you want a new computer go with a laptop.  The laptops are forced to be efficient because they run on a battery.

Energy Star only means that it has built in functions to power it down when not in use, if you just turn the machine off after you're finished using it you're essentially doing the same thing ( except if you just walk away for e few minutes). Newer machines do use a bit less power due to more efficient fans and  monitors etc.,but it's not that much.

  3. Um, you are joking, right?  Explain to me exactly how a computer will produce CO2 during normal operation.  Sure, if it overheats to the point where it ignites, some of the components will give off CO2, but that isn't all that likely to happen.  Energy Star means it is more efficient as far as electrical usage goes.
