  1. They cost less than they make us.

If you add up the money spent by all the tourists that come here because of them, you'd see they are worth it.

  2. The Queen of England died almost over 350 years ago. I think your reffering to Queen Elizabeth of United Kingdom.

  3. too much for doing nothing! I have no respect for the royals!

  4. Less than JK Rowling...that's all I know

  5. The £36.7m paid to the Queen in 2006/07 was to cover hers and Prince Philips expenses. The remainder of the Royal Family are paid by The Queen with the exception of Prince Charles who earns his own income from the Duchy of Cornwall.

Her Majesty actually paid the Treasury £190.8m in 2006/07 from the income from the Crown Estates, so she is returning nearly 75% to the Treasury of what is rightly her income.

  6. good question.

  7. Shes worth every penny is our Queen.

  8. Too much as we don't need a "Royal" family with all their baggage.

  9. The government payments to support the queen, which are known as the Civil List, are reviewed once a decade. When British Prime Minister Tony Blair was still in office, he has announced that the money Parliament gives Queen Elizabeth II to cover staff wages and other official expenses as head of state and the Commonwealth will for the next 10 years remain at the same level it has been since 1991: 7.9 million pounds ($11.9 million) annually.

The Queen pays no tax on her personal fortune. The active members of her family receive nearly $15 million annually, which is used to support their public duties. As palace spokesmen point out, most of this goes for employee salaries, as does 75% of the Queen's annual $12 million.

  10. The Royal Family cost Britons £36.7m last year, equivalent to 61p per taxpayer.

    Good value, I'd say.

  11. i kind of wonder how many jobs does she create? household staff, traveling, people making the tea towels with her picture on it?

  12. Queen Elizabeth must present a budget every fiscal year to Parliament for approval of her allowance. Also  due to her great grandmother,Queen Victoria's diligence and careful investing, the Windsors get an additional income from those investments too.

But here's the kicker. The royals pay almost double the tax rate as their fellow countrymen.

The Queen receives money from the Civil List, about 12.2 million pounds, which she uses to run her office.

"Head of State expenditure is the official expenditure relating to The Queen's duties as Head of State and Head of the Commonwealth.

Head of State expenditure is met from public funds in exchange for the surrender by The Queen of the revenue from the Crown Estate. In the financial year to 31 March 2006 the revenue surplus from the Crown Estate paid to the Treasury amounted to £190.8 million.

Head of State expenditure for 2006-07 was £37.4 million. This was 0.03% less than in the previous year (decrease of 2.7% in real terms).

Head of State expenditure has reduced significantly over the past decade, from £87.3 million (expressed in current pounds) in 1991-92.

Head of State expenditure excludes the costs of Police and Army security and of Armed Services ceremonial, as figures are not available.

Every year the Royal Household publishes an Annual Summary of Head of State expenditure, together a full report on Royal public finances. The two-page Annual Summary and full Royal Public Finances report can be downloaded as Acrobat pdf files at the bottom of this page.

A summary of Head of State expenditure met from public funds in the year to 31 March 2007 reads as follows:

    2007 2006

    £m £m

The Queen's Civil List (figures are for calendar years 2007 and 2006)  12.2 11.2

    Parliamentary Annuities 0.4 0.4

    Grants-in-aid 20.6 20.3

Expenditure met directly by Government Departments and the Crown Estate 4.1 5.5

    --------------------------------------...

    --------------------------------------...

                                                       37.3 37.4

In the financial year 2006-2007 Head of State expenditure was £37.3 million. This compares with £87.3 million (expressed in current pounds) in 1991-92.

This means that The Queen as Head of State cost the taxpayer just 62 pence per person per year."

  14. If it were ten times what it is then she is worth every penny. Ask yourself, could you envisage a President Brown or Blair?

    From a loyal subject.

  15. There isn't an exact figure of The Queen's income but here are some of the sources of The Queen's salary.

The four sources of Royal funding are: the Civil List, the Grants-in-Aid for upkeep of Royal Palaces and for Royal travel, the Privy Purse and The Queen's personal wealth and income.

There are four sources of funding for The Queen, or officials of the Royal Household acting on Her Majesty's behalf, in both a public and private capacity.

These are: the Civil List, the Grants-in-Aid for upkeep of Royal Palaces and for Royal travel, the Privy Purse and The Queen's personal wealth and income.

  16. Less than the bloody government does and she could probably do a better job if she was permitted to!

What does it matter? Why are people fixated on what our Queen earns? I want to know how much Bush gets or the French President or any other foreign leader for that matter?
