  1. Actually, modern ULEV car engines are far more efficient than human metabolism.  If people were instead to use smaller cars and carpool, when you net out total impact of the additional food and water your will require to run your human engine, with the additional human CO2 emissions,  it actually may not be a benefit to the environment to ride a bike.

  2. Electrics aren't the answer.  Where's the health benefits?  Where does the energy come from?  Right!

So back to the bike... for more on the cost to society in terms of dollars, sense and health check this article out from the NYT Magazine Freakonomics Blog:

  3. yes

  4. Tons.

We'd be healthier too. Save tons on medical exspenses.

  5. less then 1%, think about the major contributors of polution, Power Plants,  Marine vessles (boats, cargo ships, etc.), Trucks(18 weelers), Manufactuing plants, waste incenarators, and im sure there are more i cant think of, and yet a bicycle could not substitue for any of these things, cars  should be the very least of anyones worrys when it comes to Pollution.

  6. The bicycle is not the answer.  Watch for the electric cars coming out over the next 5 years.  They will be the best answer.  When you can buy an electric car with a 500 mile or more range and it is setting next to a gas car at the same price, which will you buy.
