How much Pau D'Arco should I take per day? I have a 32 ounce bottle of it. It's a big white plastic bottle and the Pau D'Arco is in a brown liquid form. I think the Pau D'Arco is in an "extract" form. I've been taking it straight but only 3 cap fulls of the bottle a night. Is that enough? The back of the bottle doesn't say, I got it from a family friend who sells it online, it is quality stuff but when she brought the bottle over she didn't attach the back portion. Also how long should I take it, a month, 2 months, etc? I can't find any info, only on the capsules and teas. Thanks.

  1. Too many variables to answer your question, but I'll give you some info so you can make an informed decision.

First of all, if it's from a friend, just call him/her up and ask for directions.

Ordinary, typical homemade tincture of Pau D'Arco (LaPacho, Tabebuia avellanedae) the dose is 30 to 60 drops, 3x daily. In acute cases (cancer) the dose may be doubled. Usually extracts are about 30% stronger than tinctures. Overdosing can cause nausea.

Here's a pretty good article from the University of Maryland: http://www.umm.edu/altmed/articles/pau-d...

Because it is a sort of "chemotherapy" it is recommended Pau D'Arco be taken one week on and one week off until results are obtained. Large doses over a long period of time may cause anemia and blood-clotting abnormalities. See this article that refs a NCI study: http://www.wholehealthmd.com/ME2/dirmod....
