How much RAM can I upgrade my PC with?

I have 2 RAM slots. Only one slot is currently being used.

I've had my computer since 2004. I'm not sure how dated it was when I bought it. Anyway, I haven't touched the RAM at all yet. This is my specs out of the box:

Compaq Presario AMD Athlon XP 3200+ 2.20 GHz, 448 MB of RAM.

(Yes, I do realize 448 MB is a weird amount of RAM for a card to have... if someone could explain how this is possible, that would be a great bonus!)

Anyway, here's my question:

How do I find out how much RAM my computer can take? I want to add RAM, so make sure you're specifying whether you're talking about total combined RAM of both slots, or the max amount I can add to just the currently un-used slot.

Your computer has 512 MB of RAM but your onboard video card uses 64MB of it.
