I have a 250G hard drive and I am going to partition it. How much space I need to leave for the C drive? Is it the larger the space, the faster my computer runs?

Thanks.

  1. Buy another 250G hard drive (they're cheap), install it as the slave dive (adjust jumper on back) and the original drive the master drive (also jumpers on back of hard drive. you made have to patition and format new hard drive- it been a while for me. Once you have vista running you will see the new drive virtually empty. Uninstall as many programs from C drive and reinstall on new (slave) drive

    Defrag both drives,

    Adjust vitual memory setting

    Reboot

  2. If you install only Vista on the C: partition, I would say at least 50 Gb.

It is more like the larger the space, the fewer problems you will encounter.

  3. Its always best to leave maximum amount of space for your C Drive, because when you install any software or games, it automatically installs it to C Drive, and its pretty nice like that. But if you want to partition it then I would personally suggest to leave at least about 60-80 GB on C Drive.

And your computer is faster if you have enough RAM, that is if you have 1-2GB RAM then you should be okay with your windows vista. Another way to keep your computer fast is to regularly Defrag your hard drive.

  4. Well if you want to install Vista, look at the requirements on how much space you need, check the hard drive space, i think you need at least 50 GB of free space on that partition or 15

but the more space, the better with Vista, its a big program, much bigger then XP.
