How much Spanish do I need for a 3 day trip to Baja California?

In late April, a friend and I are going to enter a 50 mile bike ride from Rosarito to Ensenada in Mexico. We plan to stay from Friday to Sunday. What are some suggestions for breaking the language barrier and realistically how much Spanish do I need in this part of Mexico?

  1. The true: NONE.

    I'm mexican, but here I am, answering in english. Here at my farm, far away from touristic areas and the border, many of the guys working here are english speakers (at least a few), since they worked in USA before.

    Have fun, the "signs" language works.

    Some words you want to know:

    Hola=hello

    Buenos días=Good morning

    Ayuda=help

    Necesito un teléfono=I need a phone

    ¿dónde está el baño?=where is the bathroom?

    Adios=Good bye.

  2. do not need to know any... lots speak enough english

    Suggest:  How much ?  Where is bathroom? Beer

    Thank you   Please     excuse me       Good Day

    That will take you a LONG way.  You will get treated as well as you treat the locals.

  3. A lot of us  can communicate in English, I don´t think that would be a problem , I´m sure you´ll always find someone who at least would be able to understand what you are trying to say or maintain a conversation. Don´t worry about it. Good luck and have a nice trip.

  4. You don't have to know any, because English is widely spoken in Baja California.

    The more Spanish you try to speak, the more enjoyable your trip will be.  It is courteous to speak to people in their own language in their own country.

  5. Its always good to take a little phrase book with you. However, lots of English speakers here in Baja. If you have a serious problem go to the front desk of a good hotel, those folks always speak English. Bien viaje.

  6. not much, many people speak english there

  7. Suggest: How much ? Where is bathroom? Beer

    Thank you Please excuse me Good Day

    since he didn't translate those for you, here:

    Cuanto cuesta? Dondé esta el baño? Cerveza. Gracias. Por favor. Perdon. Buenas días!

    Good luck. you prolly won't even need any of that but hey lol

  8. This is a "tourist corridor" and there is absolutely NO shortage of English-speakers in this area.  Be polite and you will be treated well.  Being able to say hello and thank you will get you very far.  Have fun!
