How much US tax refund can I get after filing my US tax return?

I am currently working in US on L1 visa. Can anybody tell me when will I need to file the income tax return and how much refund I can expect. I am unmarried.

  1. You should be able to recover the Social Security and Medicare if any was withheld .  If that is the case it would be 6.65 percent of your gross income.


  2. L1 Visa holders pay social security and medicare the same as everyone else.

    How much of a refund you get (if any) depends on how much tax you have withheld.  How much tax you have withheld depends on your income and what you put on your Form W4 when you started working.

    You will receive a W2 earnings statement after the end of the year.  You then file a Form 1040 to reconcile your income and your tax withholding.
