I just got a guinea pig and I've been doing research and I can't find anywhere how much of fruits and vegetables I need to give them. Like, in number, not in mg.

  1. I give mine a leave of cabbage each in the morning then they share a carrot or an apple or a pepper or some strawberries or something like that in the evening.  Guinea pig food is fortified with vitamin C also.

  2. Just give him a variety of greens per day. He will get all the vitamin C he needs so long as he has access to veg every day.

    Chalice

  3. Guinea pigs should get about a cup of veggies a day per pig. Here's a great list of good veggies to feed:

Fruits should be given more sparingly simply because they are high in sugar.

Please get your guinea pig a same s*x friend, they are very social!

  4. A guinea pig should eat approx. 1 cup of vegetables/fruit a day. Usually, you should feed your pig twice a day - once in the morning and once at night. Only feed half a cup each feeding, so they get a total of 1 cup per day. You should feed a range of different vegetables and fruit so your piggie gets all the nutrition it needs. When preparing food, here's a tip: cut the vegies into long bits instead of little chunks. This way, your piggies teeth get worn down and the risk of your pig developing dental diseases. I feed my pigs the following each morning and night: half a cherry tomato, 2 sticks of celery (some celery leaves are loved if I have them), 1 stick of carrot, 1 stick of cucumber, a slice of chocko, and a slice of red capsicum (bell pepper). Try and stick to a regular feeding time and diet: I feed at 7:30-8 in the mornings and 7:30 at night. During the day, I feed my guinea pigs a few snacks. Parsley, cos lettuce and celery leaves are loved. These are all good for them and allows for bonding time between you and your pig. But don't feed to much lettuce - it's mostly water and can cause diahhrea if fed in excess. To ensure your pig is getting enough Vit C, you can purchase powdered Vit C tablets, which you sprinkle on your pigs vegies. But I find this is unnecessary, as long as you are feeding high Vitamin C foods. I've found that by simply adding a large chunk of capsicum and a small bit of orange to my pigs diet, I'm meeting their daily Vit C needs. Hope this helps.

  5. Several large handfuls or kale or bok choy,  or a few slices of orange  or kiwi(all hi in C)or a handful of parsley or escarole per day for one pig. They will take what they want  and leave the rest.Remove uneaten veggies at least  once per day.

Mine love romaine lettuce and corn husks(not esp. hi in C).Halved grapes are nice, 4 per day in addition to the above or a quarter of an apple or couple of slices of banana. Don't believe those who tell you this will all cause diarrhea, not true!Mine eat their fill with all of the above and more.

A good quality pelleted food if fresh, will have sufficient Vit C.

All this is very good, but what is of utmost importance is plenty of hi quality Timothy hay.Get this on the web @ Oxbow Hay or APD Hay or at your pet store. No need to supplement with vitamins in their water, and it could even be harmful.
