I have got an docs appointment on monday. A first time visit.

I have United Health Care insurance. I pay $250 per month as premium.

On the card its says, $20 for PCPOV. $50 for URGCare and $100 for ER-.. I think i should pay $20 as copay.

Apart from this, i have heard that doctor fees is sent as bill to my address after my visit. Should i pay this even. or wil my insurance covers this. What other expenses should i be ready to pay just for this visit.

  1. You will have the $20 office visit co-pay. If you get any bloodwork or other procedures you may have to pay for that. United Health has many different plans which vary by state and type of policy; some cover all procedures in a doctor's office for the co-pay and some don't. You'll need to ask your agent to clarify what plan you have.

  2. If you're just going in for a visit, co-pay is $20 from what your insurance is stating. Whatever bill you get in the mail should be covered by the insurance, unless there was something major that wasn't covered, which shouldn't really matter. Just follow up with your insurance company if you're unsure.

  3. If you're going to your regular doctor, you should expect to pay $20. Unless the doctor does some kind of labs (like bloodwork), then you *might* shell out another $20 to the lab, but the lab will bill you. (Unless you have some kind of cost-sharing for procedures, then it'll be a different dollar amount.)

"doctor fees is sent as bill to my address after my visit" ???? Okay. This might mean that they don't want to collect the copay at the time of service - which they're supposed to. Defintiely offer to pay it when you're in the office - otherwise, you might get hit with an additional fee for nonpayment. You might get an Explanation of Benefits from your insurance company - it details how much they paid, what they paid, and why anything isn't paid.

I also recomend registering at United Healthcare's website (www.unitedhealthcareonline.com) as a member - this way, you can see claims after they've been paid, so you know EXACTLY how much you're responsible to pay and why. You'll also be able to look up what doctors are on your plan - in case you need a specialist for anything, and other covered benefits.

  4. Your copay is $20 for the office visit.

I don't know about United Health, but my insurance company just send summary of what they paid, after the office visit. They don't send a bill, unless there was something that was not covered by your plan.

Usually the doctor's office checks your benefits and will ask you to pay for a procedure, before you leave, if it's not covered by your insurance. Usually, they will also tell you beforehand, whether it is covered or not.
