I have custody of my almost 11 year old sister. I buy her everything she needs (clothes, food, etc.). Right now I give her $20 a month to buy things like treats, movies, CD's, jewelry, the non-essentials that she can't wait until Christmas to have. She has asked me for a raise when she turns 11, and I told her I would think about it. I was wondering, about how much money do you give your 11 year olds? What seems like a suitable amount of money, when she has every that she needs bought for her?

  1. about 5-10 dollars a week

if you are tight on money 5 dollars a week would work.

but make her work for it.

  2. This summer I have a list of chores for my daughter to do.  Each chore is worth 50 cents.  She can make as little or as much as she wants.  The first week she was lazy and earned a dollar, but this week she has really pitched in and earned $15!

Keeping her room clean and putting laundry away are not considered paying chores in our house. : )

  3. I dont, and never have gonnet any sort of money or allowance.

  4. I work at a Coalition/outreach program for children between the ages of 6-17. I think that you should make sure she knows the value of a dollar. I would not give her money unless you know where it's going. Starting out as a child, being given money for not doing anything around the house, I spent my money on junk food and things I didn't need. My grandma made a chart of everything that I volunteered to do around the house. (I did NOT have a chore chart) If I wanted to earn money, I had to come up with basic household things to do in order to earn something for doing it. Then she would let me put poker chips into a fish bowl and save them up. Each chore is equal to a certain amount of chips. Each chip is worth 25 cents. So taking out the trash was worth 4 chips.  and so on. The harder the chore, the more chips you earn. That way, she knows she needs to work for what she gets. Then my grandma let me open my own banking account and I got to save my money for 6 months to a year and then take it out and think about what item that was big that I wanted. I had bought a bed spread and decorated my bedroom, I got to buy a CD player, new clothes I wanted. I also donated $50 of my hard earned money to the local animal shelter. I hope this helps. You are a wonderful person for caring for your sister like you are. Thats nice.

  5. like $10 bucks a week if she has chores and responsibilities around the house, if not....I wouldn't give her a dime

  6. When I was 11 I made $13 a week.

  7. Well when I was 11 (I,m in my late 40's) I used to get 75 cents a week allowance, but i had to earn my allowance and that was by helping my mother with the household chores

  8. i am 13 and i get 20 a week and  that is the right amount ... so idk

  9. $7.50 if your11

                                  $5.20 if your 10

                                  $2.10 if your 9

and you shouldnt get any if your younger than that

  10. $20 a month sounds reasonable to me for an 11 year old. Besides, at any age, whenever you get money you will always want more - even when it is completely free. LOL! You could consider a nice one-time bonus for her birthday like $40 or something (whichever amount you choose) and that could be a special thing for her birthday. In any event, tell her I said happy early birthday though. Cheers!

  11. I'm 11 and I get 20$ a week but I have to help mow the lawn, clean my whole house except my brothers room and babysit 3-4 times a week for 3 1/2 hours.

  12. I would give her about $10 a week, but she has to do chores to earn the money, She could do the dishes or sweep the floors and vacuum, maybe take the trash out. I would have her do 2 small chores like that 5 days a week for her $10. Just give her enough money to be able to do something fun 2x a month. Like roller skating or a movie.

  13. i am 11 i get 20 $ a week

  14. it depends on how much you make. If you can give her 20 a month then tell her if she does the dishes after dinner or somthing like that I would give her the raise as long as she does the work

  15. $8.00 @ least she gets one, I never got one :)

  16. My 12 yr old son makes $50 every time he mows the yard front & back with a cap on twice in one month. He has to pay for his own gas & repairs the lawn equipment may need & this is the only chore that he makes money off doing. Otherwise, we don't give him money unless he's going out with friends or during school & it's usually not that much. he earns it so he appreciates it more, lasts longer too. good luck!
