I am planing on moving to a new place by myself. The rent is $945, the security deposit is $600. I don't know how much the electric and water bill will be for one person. Also add the cell phone bill.

How much would my monthly expenses be?

  1. My son and his finance just left a rent house that cost them $995 a month.  They used less electricity for A/C than normal because they are both cold natured?  Also, they would turn  it off or way down low while they were both gone during the day.  You just have to be conserative.  It also depends on what state you live in as to how much your utilities are.  They are in Kansas and the elec was under $100 a month.  Their water and trash ran around $40.  They were all electric.  If you have gas heat or gas oven......then that's an addtional monthly expense.  Just learn to be conserative especially with your cell phone!  It doesn't have to be the most expensive package there is.  Keep in mind that groceries and gas have gone out of site so you have to make up for that somewhere.  Learn to eat at home and take your lunch.  Cook things that you can make more than one meal out of.  Stay away from fast food in the store and out as that is what is the most expensive.  Just a few suggesions from a Mom!

  2. your other cost outside of rent you could find out from asking each of these about these extra cost and olot will depend on how you budget your money and usage.

  3. Your "living expenses" are not a function of your rent amount.  They depend on your lifestyle.

  4. Rent has nothing to do with your monthly expenses.

You could ask the landlord if s/he knows what the average utility bills are; sometimes the utility company will give you that information.  Of course, the previous tenant's usage may be different from yours.

And we have no way of knowing how much your cell phone will be.

  5. Depends on square footage and your location.

Water, if not included in rent.  (Est $30-40)

Electric (Est $100 +) Maybe less.

Heating, (Electric, Gas, or Oil?) ($100+)

    Telephone ($25 +)

    Cell Phone ($30 ???)

    Internet ($20 ??)

    Clothing allowance ??

    Car/gas expenses ??? (Could be $300-400)

Household items, (Cleaning supplies, toilet tissues, kitchen supplies, etc ($20 or less)

    Personal Care/Makeup  ??

    Food ($300-400)  ???  $10 per day???

    Insurance, (Car, medical) ?????

    Any debt payments ????

Miscellaneous, maintanence & repairs, (A must consideration) ??

With that rent, you may need at least $2,000 (more) per month, TAKE HOME after taxes.  I come up with approx. $2000.00 without everything and that's cutting it close in  my opinion.

    Can you afford that rent?

    Only my wild guess.
