I currently spend 10 cents/KWH. I have a 60W incandescent bulb that runs for 4400 hrs/yr. I want to determine how much am I spending now. I know if I go with compact fluorescent bulbs (CFLs), I save about two-thirds so I want to see how much I am spending now.

What is the formula for making this simple calculation? And what am I spending per year?

Thanks VERY MUCH for your help!

  1. A 60 watt bulb uses 0.06 kWh per hour so if the bulb is on for 4400 hours you would use 264 kWh. So at 0.10 per kWh you would spend $26.40 per year.

A 13 watt CFB would use 0.013 kWh per hour so for 4400 hours you would use 57.2 kWh at 0.10 or 5.72 per year.
