how many years do we have to work there to be entitled for the state pension?

How about the state pension for a full time mother.

  1. The simple answer is, there is none.

    There is no such thing as a state pension in France. You get back what you paid for by contributing to the pension scheme while you worked.

    When you reach 60 (women) or 65 (men), you can then claim retirement benefits. You need now 41 years of contribution to get full retirement benefits. Any number of years under 41 will attract a deduction.

    If you have worked abroad for part of your working life, France will either collect the corresponding benefits from the foreign pension entity, if it is in the EU, or let you collect direct from the pension entity. In any case, France will not pay for the years worked abroad.

    The usual solution for britishers seems to have their retirement funds paid in UK on a bank account and to draw the money from the bank to live in sunny places (France, Spain, Portugal).
