I don't need an exact figure, but for a four year old "normal" sedan. What would I be expecting, do you think? It's a Saturn Ion.

A $100. A $1000. I just have no clue because I am new. Any help would be appreciated.

  1. I don't have my bill handy, but paid $258 last year for a 1996 Mercedes C-220 and a 2006 Ford Fusion.  If I find my bill, I'll post the exact numbers for you.

The tax is based upon the vehicles you own in MO as of January 1st and is due on December 31st.  Therefore if you moved to MO on January 2nd or later this year, you will NOT pay the tax this year.

Edit:  OK, pulled out the bill.  The combined valuation for tax purposes on the 2 vehicles is $6,390 -- $1,590 for the Benz and $4,800 for the Ford.

Keep in mind that the rates vary by county.  There are a number of taxing authorities in MO, including the local school district, City tax district, County tax district, Mental Health district, Fire district, City and/or County Road district, State Highway fund, State General fund and possibly local community college districts, etc.  I live in Jasper County but a mile south in Newton County, bills are about 10% higher due to higher school taxes and a community college district that doesn't levy in Jasper County.
