I just don't understand how people are capable of affording university in the United States. I hear you guys pay around 30,000$ a year and more for tuition, while here in Canada we pay 2,500$ at most.

If I lived in the states, I would never be able to afford higher education. So, how do you guys do it? What do you rely on?

  1. I go to St. John Fisher College which currently has a price tag of $35,230.However, thanks to Financial Aid, the cost is fully covered with the exception of $2,625 which is in the form of a student loan.

  2. Financial aid, grants, scholarships, and loans are key. The number you have quoted of $30,000 is typically only seen at really elite institutions or private institutions. In most cases, there are funds available to bring that cost down. Public institutions typically cost far less.

  3. While the overall cost of going to college can be upwards in the 30s, 40s or even 50s of thousands of dollars- the actual tuition is not that much money. At a private university the tuition itself is no more than 10,000$ but usually lower and at a public university the tuition might be as low as the $2500 you state is the norm in Canada. What brings up the cost in the United States especially is the fees, living on campus, meal plans, books, etc.

I go to Syracuse University (with a lovely price tag of $45,000) and I have to take loans to make up the difference of what I cannot afford on my own. I do, however, also get quite a bit of financial aid as well as academic scholarships. I think the benefit of my degree will be well worth the expense. At least I hope so!

Good luck with everything. I hope this helps!

  4. There are loans and grats and scholarships, but the unitversity I attend in $7,000 year, but it totals to about $15,000 a year with living. Its middle range. I am fourtunate enough that my parents can pay for college other wise I'd be in a lot of debt!!

  5. oh I go to Upenn and i only pay $3000 a year because of financial aid.

Ivy League and other top schools have excellent financial aid programs
