  1. If you are going for a sport pilot license, lessons run $125 per session. It takes on the average at least 20 lessons.  Check out http://www.freedomfield.com for flight instruction if you are in northern California.

  2. First question - what's 'Finished'?  Is it Private Single Engine Land Certificate, is it Commercial Multi Engine, is it Airline Transport?

For a Private Pilot Certificate (there is no such thing as a Pilot's License - See FAR 61) in the U.S., in a traditional school environment, it will run about $8,000, and should take 3 to 6 months.

The cost does not vary much if you do it one on one with an instructor, and flying twice a week should take about six months to complete.

If you want your Instrument Rating, or Commercial Certificate, or ATP, the cost goes up with each.

Check with your local airport, and see if you can talk to a CFI there.  There's usually an introduction flight you can get for $75 to $100 at most small airports.

If you decide to pursue your certificate, I'd get your medical out of the way first.  That way, you aren't paying for a lot of training, if you don't qualify for the medical part.

Have fun, be safe, and good luck with your decision.  It's great to be a pilot..

  3. It really depends on your instructor, and how quickly you learn.  It also depends if you are going to a Part 91 or a Part 141 school.  If you are just looking for a private pilot's license, at a rate of two one-hour flights a week (plus classroom and homework time), it will probably take about six months.

  4. In the US: $5000+.

    One to two years.
