How much do the rest of the world pay per month for a family of 4 for municipal rates, electricity and water. We in South Africa pay each month for electricity, water and then a "tax" to the municipality for services ie sewerage, rubbish removal and then property rates for our properties. Other South Africans that live in SA can also answer so that we can compare the different cities.

  1. I have no idea what foreigners pay abroad, but we pay ours through a levy to Pretor (townhouse complex), R1 562 which includes an inept garden service, water, rates and taxes (until next month), security and for the upkeep of general shared amenities such as the swimming pool and tennis courts and then we pay electricity of between R500 and R600 a month.

I am told the levy needs to increase dramatically in August as well as the Body Corporate is running at a loss primarily due to upgrading the security system.

  2. Much lower than ours

  3. My Brother in Law lives in Dorking close to London.

He pays 288 Pounds for services. I'm not sure what it includes.

  4. I am currently paying R4225 pm and do not have municipal water or sewerage . Electricity is about R1400 a month . We are in the process of petitioning the current valuation of propperty that we are taxed on .

  5. In Australia there's not tax on things like sewerage and rubbish collection, this is funded out of property rates, how much you pay depends on the value of property you own.  Water and electricity is user pays.

  6. In UK I personally pay yearly £720 electricity £720 water and £1117 for the rest, my house is valued at around £250,000. The last three months cost me £400 pounds for water due to an unnoticed leak.
