I am looking for some real suggestions regarding the going rate. To me 40-60 dollars would be nice for the time... you are paying for someone to be there incase of an emergency. BUT BY ALL MEANS I AM TRUELY LOOKING FOR WHAT OTHERS ARE PAYING and what the SITTERS CONSITER FAIR... I am not looking for a snide reply regarding how low I am thinking of paying... I really would like some suggestions... please do not reply if all you are looking to do is leave unhelpful responces....

Thank you

  1. Would you work 12 hours for 40 dollars?  I am gonna guess the answer is no.  That works out to under 4 dollars an hour.

Then you go on to say they would only need to provide care for about 2 hours?  Well, if thats the case, why have them there all night?  They arent just providing care for 2 hours, they will be providing care for 12.  They are responsible for putting the kids back to be if they get out, and to get the kids out of the house safely if there is an emergency.  Do you not consider that providing care for your children?

  2. As a working mother I pay $25/day for my 2 year old.  If I need the sitter to keep her overnight I tack on $25 extra.  That is $50/24 hours.  Keep in mind this is in her home.  Then at the end of the week I usually tack on a bonus, especially if they went anywhere like the zoo or McDonalds.  I live in Indiana, so maybe rates are different elsewhere. I think your price range for overnight 2 kids is reasonable if it is in their home.  If you want someone at your home it is always going to cost more.  Maybe look into the local community high schools and colleges for someone. When I was in college I did overnight care for some professors children in their home.
