Question:

How much are sewing classes at Joanns?

I want to try and make my own clothes. I have a sewing machine and a dressform, along with other basics (thread, fabric, needles, ect.). Does anyone know how much the classes are there? Also, any reviews?

Or is there a better way to learn?

  1. Classes at my local Jo-Ann are free. You just buy your materials, and that will be all different prices. Reviews wouldn't help because the quality of the class depends completely on the person teaching it.

It's the best way to learn because you see the person do it, and they can help you right then and there. When your machine does something strange, and believe me it will, they will help you put it right again.

  2. Another possibility is a new DVD that Connie Crawford put out -- it's basically first semester design school sewing, starting with threading the machine.  The young lady who's sewing hadn't sewn before they started filming -- and had a very credible shirt at the end of it.  Also includes basics like various types of zippers.  There's a packet of student materials that can be purchased with it.
