  1. I used to board at a place that was self-care - I had to go out twice a day to feed, clean my own stall, etc.  I had to purchase all my own hay.  Board was $65/month, feed could cost $100-200/month, then you have vet bills and farrier fess and other random things come up as well.

I worked at a full-care facility that charged $350/month, and they were actually one of the cheaper full-care training facilities in town.

I tall depends on the area you live, what amenities you wish to have (you pay more for indoor arenas/pasture turnout/etc) and the complete randomness of horse ownership - your horse may go 5 years without needing the vet out for anything other than routine maintenance care, but then one day they hurt themselves and you're stuck with several hundred dollars in vet bills.

  2. It depends a lot on where you live.  It's very different in different states.  It also depends a lot on how much work you're willing to do with your horse.  If you will clean the stall, then it will be less expensive than if you want the barn to do it for you.  If you want them to turn out your horse, it will be more than if you go out to the barn and do it yourself every day.  Where I live, for full board (they feed, clean, turnout, general care) it's around $350 per month.  Don't forget that you'll also need to pay vet and farrier and dentist bills and get vaccinations and dewormers and things like that every year.  If you want to know exactly, you can call barns in your area to get their rates.
