How much are taxis?

I'm getting dropped off at a Greyhound station in a town(b) but the nearest taxi service is in a different town(a) but I need the taxi to pick me up at (b) and take to me to a complete different town (c). From A to B to C, it's about 45 MILES TOTAL. So how much would it cost to pay the taxi? And would they charge me for the 18 miles it takes to get from a to b? Even though they are picking me up a point b and taking me to point C?

  1. Cab companies are licensed to pick up fares only in certain areas. They can take passengers anywhere, but where they pick them up is regulated. So your first step is to call and find out which cab companies service town B.

You should not be charged for the distance they have to come to pick you up, regardless of where they come from. That is their responsibility if they are licensed to service that particular area.

You would only be charged the fare between town B and town C.

You also need to ask their rate per mile. Normally, cabs have a rate for the first mile, and a lesser rate for each mile thereafter. Once you know that, you can get a pretty good idea of the total fare. Don't forget to add the tip.

  2. Hmmm. What town?
