How much does a qualified primary school teacher (for children aged 3-11) get paid?

What is the starting salary, and what is the salary after a few years?

Also, please state where you are from- it will make a big difference!

I'll have a Bachelor's (with honours) degree in Primary Education, with Qualified Teacher Status next year... and I want to know what my options are, world wide

  1. Stay in England, honey. Here in Florida, teaching jobs are scarce and pay little. Everyone is moving out. Texas (Fort Worth area) starts out at $ 44, 500 a year with incentives. Florida is about $ 11,000 less than Texas.  If I could afford to move to Texas, I would. Florida right now, SUCKS.

  2. You neglect to mention country!  In the US, you can get certified in Early Childhood Education (up to age 5), Elementary or Secondary Education (or both, grades Kindergarten - 12).  Daycare workers have associates degrees from community colleges.

Early Childhood Education and K-12 require masters degrees to obtain permanent certification (some states still allow provisional certification for a BA, and you have a limited time to obtain the masters degree). You also must have done your student teaching.

You will not be able to teach in the US -- except perhaps on a teacher exchange program for one semester or maybe one school year -- since it does not look like your credentials are equivalent to US credentials.

In Fairfield County, Connecticut, teachers with the requisite masters degree in Elementary Ed can earn around $30,000 - 40,000 to start (varies from one school district to another) and earn up to around $85,000-90,000 at top of the scale.

But note that median house prices in much of this county are running about a million, and it is extremely difficult to find any house under $400,000.  Rents on a one bedroom apartment start about $1200 a month, plus utilities (add $300/mo. and up depending on heat), up to about $2200 for something nice, but not really luxury.  Connecticut is one of the highest tax & cost-of-living states, and Fairfield Co. is NYC Metro -- very high costs!

In other states, teacher salaries range from the $20's to 30's to start and top out around $50's to 80's (with M.Ed.).

Daycare workers make @$9-15/hr. around Connecticut.

  3. hahaha peanuts

starting pay for NC is 26,000 a year

    after 3 years, a little under 30

    medical benefits suck

don't go to NC for teaching. just don't do it.

  4. Most districts will have a salary schedule on their district web page that you can look at.  Those will answer all of your questions.
