How long is the life of an Oyster Card? Can I still continue to use one that I purchased a year ago, even if I am not topping up regularly?

  1. Just go to the "tfl.gov.uk" site. It's ALL there

  2. it's 90p per journey if you need to change buses on the way you'd have touch in on bus you take. so for just a few trip put some credit otherwise just take bus pass for the day / week or as long as you need i's probably the cheapest option.

  3. 90 pence a journey, you can use it for as long as it has credit.

  4. weekly adult passed are £13

  5. You can use it unless it is out of date. go to your local train station and top it up about 5.00 it should last you a days journey if you use it alot if not put a couple of pounds on it.

  6. You're getting good and accurate answers.  I just want to add a couple points.

Oyster cards continue to work even if you haven't used one for a long time.  So your card will still work, but it won't have any money on it.

If you don't use an Oyster card for 90 days, any credit that was left on it is zeroed out.  So if you are leaving London and still have money on the Oyster, stop at a TFL window and get your money back.  You can also turn in the card at the same time and get your initial deposit refunded.

Officially, you didn't "buy" your card.  The card is free, and you put down a deposit of three quid.

Yes, 90p per ride maxes out at 3 pounds for a day on the bus.  If you use other transport (London Overground, London Underground, trams, DLR) your Oyster will never be charged in one day for more than the cost of a one-day pass, less 50p.  So Oyster is cheaper even if you are doing enough travel to warrant a day pass.

I'm an American living in London, and I just want to say, TFL rocks!  I wish we had such great urban and national mass transit in the U.S.!

  7. each bus journey is 90p.

however, if you take loads and loads of buses, the cost is stopped once you get to £3.00, and for the rest of the day your oyster card won;t be charged anything at all.
