  1. Depends on how big the child is.  If it is small enough, you can take it as a 'lap baby', and the ticket will be free.

  2. Same as yours. Sorry.

  3. Depends on the airline. I can usually get a child's discount on international flights, like when we fly transatlantically. By contrast, if it's a short flight, usually I can't. The kids fly at the same rate as an adult. The "discount" is usually very slim, like $80-100 when it's over $600 per person.

Once a child has reached their 2nd birthday, by FAA rules, as well as those around the world, require that the child have a seat of his own. Fudging on this with a just-turned or small 2 year old might result in your having to buy a ticket and/or be offloaded for that flight (if it's full and they don't have time to do the ticket).

Be careful because children's discounts aren't always the wisest choice. I've done better paying the same rate for everyone, because the ticket price was cheaper, on another airline. This is especially true if it's a "low cost" airline. So always do the math!

    Happy shopping!

  4. If you are traveling domestically with an infant (under 2 years old) on your lap, the child flies for no charge and you do not need a ticket. For a child's ticket you need to check with the airlines you want to travel and also based on destination.

  5. A child that has reached his or her second birthday is legally required to occupy their own seat. So it would cost the same as an adult ticket. Some airlines offer a discounted child's fare off of a full fare ticket, but there would be no further discounts off a discounted ticket.
