  1. A good swim school will not advise you to take group lessons with kids averaging in age from 3-9.  At your age, if you have no swimming skills, you should seek out private lessons or find a class geared toward your age group.  Most likely, you may have to try to get into an adult class, if they will let you.  Look for instructors with similar certifications to my own.  This will help you get a quality lesson.  In Illinois, most YMCAs charge anywhere from 7-12 per kid per class in a group lesson.  This can be four to ten students and be a half hour to 45 minutes in length.  A private instructor can gost anywhere from 20-30 dollars per half hour.  When you do the math, private is your best choice.  Look for a qualified teacher and if you are unhappy, find another.  A bad instructor will take forever and most likely not achieve the results you need and you will need to be retaught by a better one.   This can get costly and waste time.  Look for an instructor that focuses on balance, breathing and technique.  Good luck to you!
