It's a banknote from Berlin, dated January 19 1922. The title says Reichsbanknote. My uncle bought 500 of these for one dollar at a yard sale today. How much are they worth?

  1. It would only be of value as a collector's item, so it would depend on how scarce they were.

  2. They are worth $1 now, as per the last transaction.  If anyone is willing to pay you more, that would be the new value.

Seriously, there is no way to find it out.  It's just a "collector's item", and whatever the market bears, that's it.  You may consult an antique appraiser, but the fee you pay him may not be worth./

  3. If you are active on EBay put one of them up for auction. These are probably unusual enough that you won't have a lot of direct competition. Make sure you include key phrases like "Germany, pre-WWII Berlin, Banknote Reichsbank and any others you can think of that will apply.

The results of this one auction will tell you about what they are worth. You will get this info a lot cheaper than hiring an appraiser. As the first poster said, they are collector's items, and as such they are worth exactly what someone is willing to pay. An auction is the best place to find out what someone will pay.

You could also try searching online at auction or sales sites, but these are probably going to be hard to find.
