How much baby weight did you lose by your 3rd week postpartum? How much did you gain in pregnancy?

I gained 60 pounds in pregnancy. I am 2 1/2 weeks post partum and lost 40 pounds already. Is this normal? I am breastfeeding as well. I want to lose the rest but I want to make sure that I am doing it the healthy way for my baby.

How long does it normally take to lose it all and get a flat tummy again? I am not working out that much, I just take walks when I can.

  1. Heck yea it is normal! And good for you for choosing to breastfeed. I am 6 months post partum and I lost it all by two months.

I never work out btw. But I do take my son out with the stroller and we try to stay out for at least an hour.

here's a pic I took last week... (I only took the pic cuz I have a friend in Washington who was curious haha)

    I had gained 27 lbs... I was up to 139 while preggo.. (I'm 5'2 btw) Now I'm 114

  2. I gained 3 lbs. during pregnancy and lost about 20 lbs by the week after I had her. I think it is normal for you to lose that much. You might have to work somewhat on the flat tummy thing. It will go down gradually but might not be the same unless you work on it.  I say lose the extra 20 then see how your tummy looks then decide what to do.

  3. I gained a little over 40 during my pregnancy, and 30 of it came off within two weeks. A lot of what I gained (and lost) was from swelling. I couldn't even get socks on my feet there at the end, they were so puffy.

I'm six months postpartum, and even though I have lost all the weight, my body is still different. I have been exercising, and although I feel great and have continued to lose weight, I don't think my mid-section will ever be the same after carrying a child and having a c-section.

    Good luck!

  4. i was 5'7 125 lbs when i got pregnant, i gaine 40lbs i was 170 by the end. when i was 3 weeks PP, i dropped weight but not all. but now, my son 5 months now and i pretty much look back to myself and weight, the skin isnt as tight but only i can notice it, you know what i mean? no one else notices or believes i had a baby.

  5. I gained 60lbs and I lost 40 in 2 weeks aswell. Its been 4 months and I have 12 to go now. I nurse my daughter to. Apparently nursing, you do loose alot more weight.

  6. I gained 13 & 16 lbs. during my two pregnancies.  With both pregnancies, I walked out of the hospital weighing less than my pre-pregnancy weight.  I, too, brestfed -- that's the best base for losing the baby weight!  Sounds like you're doing excellent already.  I bet the last 20 will go fast.  I never even worked out or anything.  Between the breastfeeding and taking baby for walks, you'll do fine.  You're doing it the healthy way.  Dieting while breastfeeding would be the unhealthy way, so keep up what you're doing.

Lose the weight first, then work on the tight tummy.  Sit-ups or cardio will be good for the tummy.

  7. Congrats on the weight loss.

I gained 45 overall and lost half by 3 weeks.
