  1. I would ask a nurse just call down to her pediatrician ask one of the nurse i don't know about giving benadryl to a 1 yr old baby

  2. That's difinitely a question to ask at the doctor's office, not an open forum.

  3. i wouldnt risk giving babies medicine. Maybe you should just sing them to sleep or read a story.

  4. Read on the package and it will tell you according to her weight and age..

Just make sure you ALWAYS buy the baby or children's version when you are planning to administer medicine to your children! Once you get the baby version, there will be instructions on the label telling you how much is safe for your daughter. Follow the label and you'll be fine. =)

Good luck to you and your baby! <3

  5. There is a lot of controversy over giving a baby any antihistamine.  There are many serious side effects and aside from making a baby sleepy they don't seem to have much effect on the underlying problem because of a baby's immature immune system.  I would suggest that rather the systemically treating itchy eyes you find a safe eye drop instead as this will be more effective and have fewer side effects.  In the meantime if you breastfed put some breastmilk in her eyes as it has been shown to reduce swelling and inflammation and will also cure conjunctivitis.

    WARNING

NEVER give Benadryl or any other sedatives to infants under 1 year of age for sleep. Do not allow daycare providers to give sedatives to your infants. Always consult your child's physician before using sedatives for sleep in children.

    DOSAGE

Give 0.5 mg per pound every 4-6 hours. (See dosing chart) The package doesn't give a dose for under 2 years of age and we don't recommend use under the age of one. The package also gives rather vague doses (one dose for a 2-6 year-old), often resulting in under-dosing. I prefer to calculate the dose by the child's weight. The dose is about 0.5 mg per pound of bodyweight (or 1.25 mg per kilogram). For example, a 25 lb child would get 12.5 mg (25lb X 0.5mg/lb = 12.5mg). This is exactly one teaspoon of liquid or one chewable tablet. This dose can be given every four to six hours. Hint: the dose for Benadryl and Acetaminophen (Tylenol) are the same for the liquid or chewables, i.e. if a child gets one teaspoon of Tylenol, then his dose of Benadryl is also one teaspoon.

    SIDE EFFECTS/SAFETY

        * Antihistamines can cause drowsiness, dry mouth, and sometimes, upset stomach.

        * Instead of drowsiness, some children will have an opposite effect and get "revved-up". This is more of a nuisance than a medical concern.

        * Antihistamines can be given with any antibiotic, Acetaminophen, Ibuprofen, decongestants and cough suppressants.

        * Should not be given for Croup (dries the air passages).

    (see chart)

  6. What does it say on the packaging that the correct dose is for a one year old?

If it isn't listed, you can't give her any. It's far better for her to sleep badly with itchy eyes than to have a bad reaction to a drug which isn't suitable for a baby.

Sympathy, it's horrible when your baby is miserable...but don't do it. Giving babies drugs intended only for adults and older children can kill.

  7. Dosing for Infant Benadryl (and Motrin) for infants/toddlers is based around weight.  I'd suggest a call to your doctor for guidance.

My one year old took 1/2 tsp of Infant Benadryl per pediatrician guidance.  The package will not give you guidance because of FDA rules and regulations about medications for children under the age of 2.

  8. there is baby benadryl over the counter in a liquid form just follow the direction very closely

  9. What ever it says on the bottle nothing more nothing less....please do not give more then they are to have it can make the babies allregies worse and it can interrupt babies sleep....so give what the baby Benadryl bottle says do not give her adult Benadryl please it is to strong for baby.
