How much better is a Honeymoon room Vs. A regular room at some resorts?

I am pondering Sandals for our honeymoon, but I hate how everything associated with weddings are like 3x higher in price. Should I still go to Sandals and just book a reg room instead of the Honeymoon select they offer?

  1. I would book a regular room and than you can have more spending money. I went to Sandals Jamaica a couple of months ago. The resort was too small...just an FYI. : ) Have fun!

  2. We booked our honeymoon in Maui. The resort we are at has 3 (or maybe 4) different room types...we upgraded from a standard suite to the next size. We didn't go "all out" and get the room that was more money. I think we're paying $30-35 more a night with our current room...but there were some that were much higher.

Our thinking is this... We've never been to Hawaii. We don't know when we'll be back. Yes, it's our honeymoon, and while we're splurging in many areas, this is not one. We want to take in as much as we can. We'd rather spend our time out, exploring, seeing the sights, parasailing, snorkeling, etc. than being cooped up in a hotel room.

However, with that being said, I will offer you a piece of advice. When you arrive at the airport, and if you're flying coach, tell the person checking you in that you are on your honeymoon, and ask if you can be upgraded for free to first class. They will do this if there are openings in first class! Do the same when you get to the resort/hotel. Many will throw in upgrades for free, if available.

On a side note, when my mom was remarried in 2004, my step-dad and her had their honeymoon at the Sandals in Jamaica and absolutely loved it. We would have booked ours there if it weren't during hurricane season (we're getting married in 2.5 weeks!).

    Good luck planning!

  3. The best way to get screwed money wise is to tell a company that you're there for something to do with a wedding or honeymoon.

I'd go for the regular room and save the money to help make a down payment on a house.  One will last 1 week.  The other will last 1 lifetime!

  4. While I have never visited the Sandals resort or its website, it's like many other resorts that have regular suites and deluxe suites.

Often, deluxe suites will have a jet soaker tub instead of a regular bath. Or include a fireplace. If you are looking to minimize price then I would look for deluxe suites that are not advertised as honeymoon suites, as you are correct - the price tends to jump for such occasions.

There are valid jumps in price to consider though however as extras can be included.

At the resort I work (kitchen), we do romantic getaways, honeymoons, weddings, almost nightly, (summer time especially of course), but the main difference in price is that for about 100 dollars more, you can order the romance package, which includes restaurant credit, champagne, candles, bath salts, rose petals and tuxedo strawberries, as well as late checkout. But those are not special honeymoon rooms. It's the service that you pay extra for, not the room upgrade.

So look into what they offer in terms of packages like this in regular or deluxe rooms and you might save a bundle.

    good luck and congrats!

  5. I've never been to a Sandals resort, but I hear that pretty much any room you get is nice because it's a luxury hotel. I also can't stand how much prices are jacked up when they add the word "bridal" or "wedding."

If I were in your shoes, i would get the regular room, and then splurge on things like massages and nice dinners. That's what we're doing. We're having a simple honeymoon in Vermont, and we booked a room at a B&B thats average (not the luxury suite, but not a standard room), and then we also booked some extras like really nice dinners, couple's massages and we're doing some fun activities we wouldn't normally do like horseback riding, etc. The way we see it, we'd rather spend the money of those types of things than having a few extra square feet added on to the room.

I hope that helps to give you some perspective.

  6. well..... honeymoon suite is bigger and nicer than regular
