I plan on buying a 17" notebook for college to replace my ancient 15.4" notebook and was wondering how much bigger it is in comparison, in terms of size, bulk, and weight.

I plan on getting a Gateway FX laptop. and my current laptop is a Acer Travelmate.

  1. Size wise -- its 2 inches bigger (diagonally). Apart from just being large, you also get a wide-screen at 16:9 ratio which isn't too bad.

Weight wise -- you can expect it to be at least half a pound heavier or more compared to a 15 incher. (depending on the size of the battery; a 9cell battery can weight up to 600 grams).

  2. The obvious difference is the screen size which is measured crosswise. The bulk and weight I think is more or less the same. Is it not awkward to carry a big gadget to school? For what purpose do you want a bigger laptop? The specs I think is more important than size. The fad nowadays are smaller laptops but they are more costly. The 15.4" I think would just be fine.

  3. Its bigger in width not hight i suppose and as i have seen.

  4. ABOUT 2" or 5.5 cm the difference in sizeof screen. But about the same over all. 3lbs heavier though

    Specs of ACER

    13.2 in Depth

    11.2 in Height

    1.4 in Weight

    6.2 lbs

    SPECS OF Getaway

    1.3 to 1.7-inches (H)

    15.75-inches (W)

    11.75-inches (D)

    9.2 (lbs)

    Have a nice day

  5. quite a bit larger.
