How much bigger is a full/double mattress than a twin mattress?

i want to get a new bed frame, the one i have in mind is a double...but i have a twin sized mattress, and buying a new mattress is a fortune...

so i was thinking if a double isnt that much bigger, i would just find a way to put storage or padding in the open space.

I think a full is 6-7 inches wider.

A standard twin mattress is 39" wide and a full mattress is 54" wide.
