How much bleach can i add?

i'm going to be doing some house cleaning and i would like to use bleach to clean everything but i don't want to bleach the color on stuff like my carpets and couch.how much bleach can i add to the water so it won't hurt anything? i am using a 4gal bucket.

If your going to use bleach, I would not use it on any fabrics, furniture such as dressers, armoirs, vanitys, etc... and Upholstery like couches, beds, etc...

I would only use it on Cleaning the kitchen sinks, countertops, dining table, bathroom sinks, countertops, bathtub/shower, mopping

I would not use it on glass, mirrors, or windows

Always dilute it with water(hot hot water)

I don't think I would use more than a cup of bleach for that whole 4 gallons. And, make sure to use thick rubber gloves (like dishwashing gloves) and have the place be well ventilated. Bleach fumes are very harmful. They really tear up your mucous membranes.

Why would you want to use bleach?  If you want to clean, there are better products by the hundred.  If you want to disinfect, use one capful per gallon of water.

Ugh, shudder shudder!  Please don't use bleach for routine cleaning.  That stuff is toxic and can react with other common cleaning agents to produce chlorine gas, which is NOT something you want to be breathing.  If you have used vinegar, baking soda or amonia on the same surfaces, the bleach can cause the chemical reaction that creates the gas.  Also, pouring bleachwater down the drain is quite hard on the environment.  The stuff should have a skull and crossbones on it!

Despite all the advertising, you don't need anything that strong to clean and deodorize your home.  Almost any mild soap will do the job.  I especially like the method cleaning products sold at Target, but there are lots of good alternatives to bleach.
