It's a big garden and I only cut the grass. The backyard is almost 8x20 meters and so is the front yard, may be bigger.

  1. I assume you mean you will cut the grass using a push-type rotary lawnmower & if so I would charge a minimum of $18 per hour of running time with maybe a 10% discount to beneficiaries. Any time spent on maintenance or "gossiping" should not really be charged for.

  2. Eighteen dollars an hour?!!  How would you survive after expenses?  Charge by the lawn, not the hour.  A good absolute minimum is twenty five dollars.  MINIMUM!  For people you LIKE!  A LOT!  Work efficiently and you should be able to finish a small lawn in less than a half hour including trimming and edging.  If you can't make at least thirty dollars an hour- AT LEAST- you should just work for someone else.  you have expenses like fuel, taxes...  unless you're just doing it for a couple extra dollars.  If that's the case get a manual, reel-type push mower and get some exercise and market yourself as an "earth-friendly" lawn maintenance company.  Eight by twenty meters...  24X60X2 at least.  approx. 3 thousand square feet?  Forget the push mower.  Charge forty five dollars.

  3. it is hard to tell. in Napa Ca. i charge $25/hr. using my own mower. it may vary in other cities and states. try to agree on a monthly rate, since you will make more money this way. for instance, if i charge $100/month, i estimate working 1 hr/week. that means $25/hr. however, it may take me 40 mins. so i end up working about 3 hrs/month and over $30/hr.
