Question:

How much can I sell baby guinea pigs for?

I brought 2 female guinea pigs from a pet shop a couple of months ago and both had babies last week.

I was going to give them away for free once they are old enough but am now thinking of selling them as I've had to buy extra things for the babies.

I was just wondering how much I should sell them for?

  1. 80$$$

  2. Don't try and make money on it.  Give them away or you will end up stuck with them till they're too old (less cute).  You did nothing to 'earn' the babies anyway, and people will have to shell out money for their environments.

  3. I will exchange both of them for my goat? x

  4. In the pet shop where i got mine from it cost me £19 each or it was 2 for £36 you could sell them for that or say £5 - £10 each as you may get more offers that way. But if u do sell them please dont just sell them to just any one make sure they are gonna be looked after properly and that no harm will come to them b4 u let them go. i hope this helps.

  5. i think at least 15 pounds each thats how much i sold mine

  6. From my own persoanl experience id say £10. This covers the additional costs of keeping them so far but is not too expencive that people wont buy them.

  7. keep them and neuter them this time hehe

  8. You won't be able to get much for them - just charge a small adoption fee, maybe $5-7, to ensure they don't end up as snake food.

It's often very difficult to find homes for baby rodents - guinea pigs, hamsters, and whatnot - so you won't be able to charge a lot. Giving them away for free invites snake owners and, well, bad owners.

Don't let them go home with someone who wants them for a child's pet, and only place them in pairs. Make sure whoever adopts them already has an adequate cage set up (7.5+ square feet for two pigs) and will provide proper food and care. If you need help finding good homes, try contacting a rescue group in your area - you don't need to surrender them, but the rescues will often do courtesy listings on their website or on http://www.petfinder.com/

Good luck finding them homes - it can be very difficult. I've been involved in small animal rescue & rehoming for years and I can't tell you the number of times I've ended up keeping a few just because nobody wanted them.

  9. £100 but you might not get any offers

  10. As they are pedigree specimens you can sell them for upwards of £400 each to fanciers who will show them.

  11. 50$

  12. As much as you can get for them

  13. about a tenner. Can I have one please??

  14. i'd say $10.

  15. I am not sure on the going rate for a Guinea Pig, but perhaps ask the pet shop you bought the parents from if they need any new stock..

  16. How many guinea pigs do you have?If you have 2 make it 4 dollars.Just double the number of how many guinea pigs you have.

  17. u cant put a price on a life that's just wrong and greedy

  18. You should keep them, you would not beileve the amount of cruelty they could go through without you.

  19. You should adopt them out with a small fee, not sell them. These are lives not something you make a profit on. Don't adopt them out free as that can land them in bad homes, just have a small adoption fee and make sure you check out the new owner before handing them over to make sure they will be taken care of properly.

Do not give them to pet stores, you'll have no idea who they end up with.

  20. At pet stores here (Canada) guinea pigs are only around 8 - 16 $. I dunno where you're from, but don't make them too expensive.

  21. Petstores in Canada pay on average $3 for a regular gp, $5 for an Abysinian, and $11 for all other fancies.

But if you're selling them to there potential owners, I would say $5 a pig.

However, if the people who want the pig have a good sized cage, and the means to take care of it, just give the poor pigs a good home.
