My b/f has worked on cars for a couple years and is interested in becoming ASE-certified. Are there any ASE-certified mechanics who can give us an idea of how much he could potentially make if he were certified? Also, I know that in order to get your certificate, you have to have at least 2 years work experience or complete an approved apprenticeship program. For almost 3 years he worked for a repair shop working on cars, but he was paid under the table (yes, I know that was WRONG, but he needed the money). So how could he really prove that he DOES have the work experience, without getting in trouble? Would he just have to work for a legit shop or do an apprenticeship? Any advice?
