I am about to buy/lease a dump truck. When I put it to work I would like to know how much money to expect each truck to make. I would also like to know advantages and disadvantages to Buying v.s. Leasing. Any additional info on the subject would be great. If this venture turns out good I plan on buying more trucks in the future.

  1. Depends on your location and how hard you work.

  2. I would first look into both insurance on the vehicle and business liability insurance premiums for this industry.  It is high risk because the vehicle can do a lot of damage in an accident no matter who's at fault.  No matter if you buy or lease the insurance premiums must be full coverage to protect the lender.

I would probably buy because if business got slow or some emergency came up, you can always resell the Dump Truck.  Getting out of a lease agreement may be very difficult.

If you call other similar businesses in your area and inquired about their rates, it will give you an average of what you should charge per load and the travel time to determine how many loads per day you can deliver.

    Good Luck To You

  3. You can make good money in a dump truck business. The only thing is that the trucks are expensive to buy/lease and maintain. Especially with the ridiculous diesel prices these days. As Frosty said, location matters. You will get better business in civilized areas.
