How much can fit on a 1GB SD card?

Question

I wanted to buy a new SD card, but first I would like to know how many photos AND how many minutes of video can fit on 1GB. The photos would be 3 megapixel quality, and the videos would be YouTube video quality.

About 100 good quality songs, A music video is usualy 40 Mb and a movie is 700Mb. And a song is aroung 4Mb 1 GB is aprox. 1000Mb by the way.

I have a 1GB SD Card and it fits a total of 1008 pics on it. The camera holds 13 w/o the card, so 995 pics for the card.

Video is about an hour, but my camera doesn't support sound and it's 5 mexapixel. So, a few things would be off, but overall, about 1000 pics and an hour of video.

like 12 youtube videos and like 200 pictures, if you use it just for videos that would be like 25 or 26 videos and if you use it only for pictures that would be like 400

right around 600 pics for a 3 Megapixel and im not sure about video.  A website i went to said between 2 to 4 hours, and another one said 23 minutes....personally i think it would be 23 minutes.

also i have 17 picts on a 16 MEG card at 4 megapixel so id guess you can get a bit over 1000 at least on a 1 gig card

A bit hard to say, youtube videos are about 240kbit/second on standard quality and (I think!) 960kbit/second on high quality.

You'd get at least 1+1/2 hours of high quality youtube video on it (once you take into account the overhead of the filesystem and what not on the card) and about 7-8 on the standard quality.

What format are the images in?

Un-compressed bitmaps will take about 8-9 megabytes for 3 megapixels, so about 100 pictures on the card.

Compressed (and lossy) like jpeg vary a lot more depending on the specific compression "quality", but they could be anything upto about 2 megabytes, or about 400 pictures on the card, though possibly a lot more.

Crack open your wallet, go crazy an splurge a little on a 8 Gig mini sd  card and start worrying yourself with this inane nonsense. Stop anguishing about the size, or lack of size, of your sd card (we're not talking about your p***s here, it an SD card - I hope). And will Go outside, play some ball or round up the neighbors for a game a tag. Live a little
