How much carbon dioxide do we exhale in one day?

Or how much air do we inhale on average in a day?

The air we breath in (inhale) is roughly 78% by volume nitrogen, 21% oxygen plus small percentage of other trace elements such as argon etc. gases.

We exhale roughly 4% - 5% carbon dioxide (per web search, others gave a higher percentage).

I need a rough figure on average per person:

1) how much carbon dioxide do we exhale in one day?

2) how much nitrogen do we inhale in one day?

  1. http://mistupid.com/chemistry/aircomp.ht...

The website above tells you the air composition, listing a wide variety of gases.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lung_volume...

That tells you above lung volumes and air intake.

The rest is just simple math which I'm sure you can figure out on your own.

  2. It's after the pub..footy season not started..can't believe I'm answering this stuff..neway..ave resp rate =15 inspirs/min

tidal vol of lungs=0.5l=10.8m^3/day ..inhaled and exhaled. We inhale zero net N2/day!

From ruff research conducted in lst 10 min.. a match burns approx 80% less time in exhaled air compared to atmospheric air.* This would indic8 that exhaled air contains about 16.8% O2 and 4.2% CO2.

    So..u exhale 10.8m^3 of breathed air ..of which 8.42m^3 is N2..1.61m^3 is O2..an 0.45m^3 is CO2

*inside somerfield plastic bag since you ask..ave of 6 timed trials..?!
