How much cardio is ideal?

If your looking to lose some weight and tone up, my weightlifting routine is good, my diet healthy, but cardio (cant run weak ankles) walking ,or dancing,would love to start rowing ...but for now lets go with walking ...how much do i need to walk per day to be at the ideal cardio workout , a couple miles a day ?,more ?, less ?, everyday? everyother day? please give me miles and approx time it sould take if possible, thanks!

  1. Why not go at your opwn pace and set goals for what you want to work uo to.

    power walking - try walking at top speed for 15 mins.

    Skipping - try to skip for 5 mins - this will really get you into fat burning mode quickly.

    Swimming - try swimming 20 lengths without stopping at the end of lanes.

    If you did 30 mins of cardio 4 times a week, that would be a good amount.


  2. If you already have a good diet and weightlifting routine, walking will have a negligible effect.

    If you want to add cardio into your routine, it should be high intensity interval training. Since you have bad ankles, you can use a bike or elliptical. Try this to start:

    Warm up : 5 min

    Interval: 1 min max speed - 2 min moderate speed (Repeat 3x)

    Cool  down: 5 min

    As your fitness improves, you can increase the number of intervals.

    Alternately, you can skip the cardio and just add supersets into your lifting routine.  

  3. You need to do cardio five days a week for about an hour.
