I am forced to drink coffee on a regular basis now thanks to my new job. I go at about a cup a day. How much is too much when it comes to coffee? What are the negative side effects of long term coffee/caffeine intake?

  1. Your forced..?

    I'm 16 and I drink about 2 a day, sometimes a couple more.

I know that any more that 2 a day for a prolonged period of time can be bad for your health, not sure how.

But a cup a day is good.

  2. That sounds like a bunch of BS!

How can anyone be forced to drink anything?

Is someone holding a gun to your head?

  3. A cup a day is no problem and you won't have any long term effects from caffeine with that level. Providing of course you actually mean cup and not one ginormous container.

1 cup equals 1 serving equals 8 ounces. If that is all you are getting then you are find.

Coffee contains 85mg of caffeine per serving. The maximum safe level of caffeine we can consume in a day is 300mg. So 3 coffees would be the maximum you would want in a day.

For your reference though too much caffeine can cause sleeping problems, mental focus problems, headaches, muscle aches, dehydration, heart problems, skin problems, kidney problems, and other organ problems.

  4. If you've been awake for a few days straight, switch to decaf. :-D LOL

  5. I'd say that if your knees are weak and shaky, your hands are shaking, and you are extremely irritable, you might have had too much coffee.  The only time it happened to me, I'd consumed several POTS, not cups, of coffee during a marathon canasta game in my college days.

I've been drinking coffee since the day my parents brought me home from the hospital at birth (lots of sugar and lots of milk, probably more milk than coffee).  It is a rare day that I don't drink at least half a pot of coffee and I know of no ill effects on my health.

If you don't want to drink coffee, don't drink it.  Unless you are a professional coffee blender, I don't think you will loose your job over it.

The only negative side effects are that some folks can't sleep after drinking coffee.  I can drink a cup of coffee, go to bed and sleep as well as I ever do.  The other side effect is shared with beer.  You don't really buy coffee, or beer, you just rent it for a while.

  6. When you get a sourness/aciidity in the stomach, when it causes you sleeplessness, when you get palpitations of the heart because of drinking coffee, then it is too much. Too much caffeine intake can make your veins constrict, blood flow is slower.

  7. Just stick with the one cup, there are lots of anti-oxidants in coffee.

How can anyone force you to drink it?

  8. a cup a day is not bad, my uncle used to drink 14 cups a day until the doctor said he must stop
