  1. You are looking at anywhere from 8 to 10 years to become a licensed pyschologists, this includes clinicals and other training.  You will need a bachelors degree, then a masters, and if you wanted advanced study, then a doctorate degree.  Of course this varies by state, so you may want to check with your state or the APA website.

  2. 4 years to get a bachelor's degree...then on to graduate school...you need AT LEAST a master's degree to be a psychologist (2-3 years full time graduate school).  A doctorate will be another 3-5 years of graduate study.  (Ph.D.)

You will have to take the GRE (graduate record exam) to get into graduate school.   You also need recommendations from professors you have worked with, on their research.  Go to apa.org to read about the different types of psychologists.  Not all psychologists do therapy.  A psychologist must be good at research methodology, and statistics.  A master's and doctorate require you to do original research...collect and analyze the data...then defend it in front of a committee.  And for a Ph.D. you also have preliminary exams....they last a week or more, closed book, written.  (Ph.D. psychologist/ retired corporate/ now college professor)
