How much concrete base do I need to keep a heavy 8 foot cinderblock wall stable? It has an L shape?

We tore down our garage to build a garden but left the walls. We're ready to take out the concrete floor but need to know how much floor to leave so the wall (no foundation) doesn't fall

  1. i would leave it at least 2 ft. wide to keep the walls from tipping...i still wouldnt sit next to it in a heavy wind...

  2. I too am a little unclear to exactly what you mean.

Do you mean the wall is sitting on the slab perimiter edges? (therefore there will be an edgebeam foundation below or strip footing).

Even if this is so, that wall may want to come down when you are demolishing the slab so I would be extremely careful.

  3. Are you saying there is no footing under the area where the walls were?If that is what you mean, then this is a VERY unstable situation.

    Is this wall 8 ft.TALL?

    How long is it?

I need more information, but it doesn't seem so good.

A 20 ft long wall by 8 feet high without a footing is VERY unstable.Even if you left some of the slab, it could fall the other way.I would be very carefull, because if your neighbor turns you in you could be up against a code violation.Good Luck
