How much could I lower my mile time if I ran four times a week all summer?

My current mile time is hovering around 9:40-9:45, which I know is preeetty slow. I want to try and run at least 30 minutes straight or 2-4 miles at least four days a week over the summer to get faster. Is it possible/feasible to shed 2 whole minutes off of my time?

  1. You shouldn't aim to lower your mile time for better overall health, unless you really do want to aim for a faster time.

For better health, eat breakfast, and if possible, with green tea. Take 30 minute walks everyday, outside or on a treadmill with free weights to lift while you walk. This increases your metabolism, making it easier to choose to exercise, and easier to stay in shape (but don't slack off, cause you will then slow your metabolism).

For better mile time.....go with better health. I can't give you better tips here...maybe just go for a run every other day or so.

  2. You sohuld run more than that if you are really dedicated to dropping that time. Or run four times a week..with 2 of the 4 days.. running in the mornings and after noons.. You sohuld also not run less than 3 miles.. unles its speed work. But you should always get about 3+ easy miles before you do speed work. That helps with endurance.

  3. if you plan on doing that, i definately think you could. it gets harder to shed time off though once you're at your peak fitness level. your goals are good, just make sure that you fit in some speed workouts, if you're trying to improve your mile time. 400m intervals at mile pace with 3 min recovery. just differnt speed workouts, because when you go on distance runs, you're working on your stamina and endurance, make sure you fit in speed. now 9 minutes is kind of slow, which is why it is going to be EASY to bring that time down. Don't let anyone tell you that you can't.  Good luck!!!  i hope this helps!

  4. ok what my long distance coach does is one hard day and then one easy day and they are one and off. So hard days should be like doing  four 800 meters with a one lap cool down after each one. Then on like easy days you should do a 5-7 mile run.
