My daughter wants to start a little babysitting job and not sure how much to charge. We are looking for babysitting job for her within our Church since she is known and we trust for a 13 year old. Do you think it would be better to babysit at their home or ours?

I will be there to monitor her and help her if she needs it.

  1. It really depends on where you live!  Some areas $5-6 an hour is about right, but not everywhere.  Here Min wage is only $6.50 so youth cannot charge that much.  In this area 13 - 15 year olds charge $3-4 an hour.  It goes up a little at 16, 17, and then older.  I would suggest talking to other youth in your area and see what they are charging.  You can also call daycare centers and see how much they charge per hour.  Your daughter should charge a little less then a day care center.

If you are wiling to do the care at your home you can let your daughter advertise that she can do either her home or theirs, but, most people like to have the care at their own home so it is most familiar to the kids, full of age appropriate toys, and baby proofed to meet the kids needs.  Offering both is always a good idea though!

    Good luck!

  2. I say $5 per hour

It would probably be better for her to babysit at her home because then she will be more familiar with the surroundings.  She can babysit more than one child if she babysits at home which means more cash!

  3. When I used to babysit I never had a set price (mostly because I was afraid of sounding too forward). Sometimes I got paid great, other times not so much lol. Typically, daycares charge an average of $5 an hour. So $3 would probably be reasonable. It won't shock the "clients" and its not a bad deal for your daughter. They'd probably be more inclined to tip, and ask for her services again in the future.

Depending on when she is babysitting would probably determine where she babysits, and also how old the children are. Some children may be more comfortable in their own home, but more behaved in someone else's. Also if she's watching them at night, she may prefer to watch them at their house so they can be put to bed and not be disturbed by a late night pick up at your house. Also ask the parents right out what they are more comfortable with.

    Good luck!

  4. I would start with maybe 5-6 dollars an hour. When I was 13 that much money seemed like a lot. Maybe to her it doesn't seem like much but it's a fine amount to start with. I would say try your house since she's comfortable with it. Until she can feel completely comfortable with the kids and then maybe go to their house. And of course you have to be comfortable with it all as well! =]

  5. me at 25, and can perform cpr etc, i charge $8 an hour, straight, you pretty much have to watch kids at their homes, that is where they are compfortable

  6. i charged $3 dollars an hour for one or two kids

and .50 cents an hour more for each additional child, up to 2 additional children.

3 may sound a bit low, but once you learn the people and make a good rep for yourself , the parents almost always give you extra.

  7. im13 and i babysit three children for $2.50

and i also babysit another little boy for $ 5.00

so it depends on the kids and how many there are.

  8. theirs

  9. i say it depends on how many kids there are and if they are well behaved or not and you could ask the parents what they are willing to pay and i think if you are going to be with her she could go to the familys house

  10. She should babysit at the child's house, because the child will feel more comfortable. I am 12 and I charge 5 dollars an hour... I hope this helps you! Tell your daughter good luck with babysitting!!!! : )

  11. it depends on the kids, age, and how many, sometimes it depends on the gender. my two little cousins who are boys are a little harder to watch than my two girl little cousins. but i would charge around $5 an hour. but i normally get $20-$30 for babysitting my little cousins. anything under 4 or 5 hours i normally take $20 but anything over and my cousins offer more, but i'll only take up to $30.

  12. I would suggest that she charge $3.00 an hour for one and an additional dollar an hour for each child after that. they should also be responsible for getting her home,or pay a transportation fee.when she is at their home. most people prefer to have the children in their own homes, rather than have to disturb their sleep to pick them up. although at first it would be good if she could watch them at your house where you could easily supervise.

  13. It should be just to help, no charge since your there with her, shes not really babysitting your the one whos gonna do everything anyway.

  14. 50$

  15. 5-10$ an hour is the best rate at the time.

when i started babysitting, i charged 6$ an hour. but depending on certain families and what they offer, the amount varies.

its always best to decided whether do babysit at your home or the "customers" when you know the age of the child. an actual baby would be better at your home just incase your daughter needs help with something. an older child would worl best at the "customers" home.

it varies with the child i guess.

  16. well...they need to know if she's a really good babysitter because then people will trust her more

probably like 5 dollars/hour at first, but then the more she babysits, the more she gets paid

  17. Well, If you are going within your church, make it very nice and negotiable. I suggest $6 an hour, five for the less fortunate. At your house. Hope it helps :)
